IT wasn’t until I was in my mid thirty’s that I decided to get more serious about not going tree planting. Coincidently this was the start of exploring the back country of Vancouver Island. So, in height of summer of 2016, my partner Mike, our thirteen year old dog, and I decided to head of the hills. But it was more like heading up a wall as we continued to climb up up up! After our paddle cross the lake and getting up nice and early in order to make the most of our adventure and all of lifes’ mystery and unknown. We were stoked. Long story short, I’d do it again in a heart beat. I had been wanting to do this for years. As a seasonal worker of the great outdoors, by the time my work season came to a close and the wounds had healed from the hard work done, there was a very small window before the snow flew and we’d trade in our boots for skies. I had heard good things about this hiking trail and how it was fully run by volunteers. A small group of local nature loves mixed with outdoor enthusiast motivated to come out and pitch in: is the dream team behind the Sunshine Coast Trail. Tucked away far from the big city lights and the hum of traffic sounds lays a kind of peace and tranquility I loved to call home. Before moving back the island, this little slice of heaven is where I got to learn about sustainability, living with the seasons and the art of homesteading that will always hold a special place in my heart. This is where I go to visit the beautiful souls that care for this place and to the land itself forever waiting with open arms.
